ARTIFACT:
This is a great old 1890's 6 point solid Ball Tipped Star, in heavily nickel-plated nickel, from a solidly Western location: Silver Bow County Montana, the county seat being Butte. The lettering and embellishments are all hand stamped, and there is nice wear to the ball tips on front and back.
This badge was from the heyday of Butte's copper mining growth, and the Wild West environment that came with it!
The only detraction to this badge is that it is fairly "in the bright" but I think this is just from the very high grade of nickel that was used for the finish plating.
It is a great, busy looking badge with its multiple fonts and heavily embellished spaces.
And the badge has a nice large presence, at approximately: 2-3/4" in height x 2-3/8" in width.
