ARTIFACT: This is a cool old "stock" oval badge with the scarce title of "Special Detective". The badge dates from the 1870's - 1880's and is of a type that could have been worn anywhere in the country, even the Old West by a Plainclothes Detective. The lettering is accentuated with finely engraved shadowing and "spikes" at the top of the each letter in the word DETECTIVE.

VINTAGE: Circa 1870's - 1880's.

SIZE: Approximately 1-1/4" in height and 1-11/16" in length.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel-plated nickel.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal safety-style pin with no saddle.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from an old stock detective badge collection that we will be listing more of over the next few months. MDX12 LEGEX1/14 SLABGEX04/03/21

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The badge shows only some light wear with one tiny spot of moderate wear on the front.
