ARTIFACT:
This is a great circa 1900 Salem Light Infantry (aka Salem Zouaves) military brass band officer hat badge from Salem, Massachusetts. The brass band was organized in 1837 as part of the Salem Light Infantry, which had been around since 1805. In 1988, the unit was redesignated as the First Battalion, 101st Field Artillery, Massachusetts National Guard. The badge is convex and has enameled lettering and an enameled striped crest upon an eagle's breast.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1900.
SIZE:
Approximately 2-1/16" in height and 1-7/8" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Gilt brass, enamel.
ATTACHMENT:
Single screw post with two stabilization posts.

CONDITION:
7+ (Very Fine+): The badge shows only light wear; a couple of very tiny buts of enamel missing.
