ARTIFACT: Great early ??? mid 1960's USS Bennington CVS-20 Police Petty Officer Badge #2. The ball-tipped star pattern badge is router engraved with letters that read: "USS BENNINGTON PPO 2 CVS 20" in black painted detail. The USS Bennington was redesignated as an anti-submarine warfare support carrier, CVS-20 in June of 1959. She took part in the 1960 Laotian Crisis and had three tours of duty ??? between 1965 and 1968 ??? in the Vietnam War. She was the prime recovery vessel for the unmanned Apollo 4 mission and recovered the spacecraft from the ocean on November 9, 1967 and was decommissioned shortly thereafter in 1970.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Nickel plated brass, paint

ATTACHMENT: Vertical safety style pin with come under 'C' catch.
