ARTIFACT:
Great 1940's Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul, & Pacific Railroad Hiawatha streamlined engines promotional celluloid pin. The Railroad was also known as The Milwaukee Road and the fleet of Hiawatha streamlined engines passenger trains boasted some of the fastest speeds of travel between cities. The center of the pin features a figure in black and white detail and it reads: "THE MILWAUKEE ROAD". In older advertisements, the figure resembles a Native American holding a bow and arrow, but this example does not portray the bow, arrow, or stylized headdress and this may be a reflection of changing social perspectives. The outer edge of the pin reads: "HIAWATHA TRIBE MEMBER" in black and yellow detail. The edge of the pin on the reverse shows a maker's stamp that reads: "PARISIAN NOVELTY CO., CHICAGO".
