ARTIFACT: This is a great circa 1910s Press reporter badge from the New York City Evening Sun newspaper. The New York Sun hit the streets in 1833, becoming a wildly popular newspaper almost overnight. The paper had many incarnations, one of which was the Evening Sun, which was published from 1887 through 1920. The Sun is the paper responsible for publishing the extremely famous line, "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus" in response to an eight-year-old reader in 1897. The badge is either in silver or silver-plated brass, and is numbered 432 on the knot of the bow at the bottom of the wreathed quill.

VINTAGE: Circa 1910s.

SIZE: Approximately 2" in height and 1-3/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Silver or silver-plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal pin with tongue-style catch.

MARKINGS: 432 on front.

ITEM NOTES: This is from an early newspaper reporter badge collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MGEX14 LEGEX5/14 SEJJX5/14

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The badge has some light wear and tarnish.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
