ARTIFACT:
This is a Great 1910's - 1920's "Solid Gold" (10K) Chief of Police Coat Badge from Rocky Point North Carolina with a matching Gilt Brass Hat Badge.
The "Solid Gold" (so marked) badge was tested at slightly higher than 10K gold with an XRF tester. It weights 21.76 grams, or 13.99 pennyweights.
VINTAGE:
1910's - 1920's.
SIZE:
Approximately Police Badge: 2-7/16" in height x 1-11/16" in width. Hat Badge: 2-1/8" in height x 1-1/2" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Police Badge: Solid 10K Gold. Hat Badge: Gold Plated brass.
ATTACHMENT:
Police Badge: Vertical T-style pin with over-under Tiffany style catch. Hat Badge: Single screw post with disk-backing and pin.

CONDITION:
Coat Badge: 8+ (Excellent): The coat badge shows minor to light wear and very light patina.
Hat Badge: 5+ (Fine-) : Not being made of gold, this badge apparently saw a lot of polishing to keep it matching the coat badge. And now, having been polished by a collector last, sometime in the last 40 or 50 years, there is an uneven patina and wear to the badge, and all of the gilding is gone from the obverse. ,
