ARTIFACT:
Gorgeous circa 1900 New York State Health Officer badge in heavy die struck gilt and enameled brass by Dieges & Clust. The center of the badge features fine detail showing the Great Seal of the State of New York, as depicted through Liberty and Justice with a scroll/banner below them that reads: "EXCELSIOR" the New York State motto meaning 'Ever Upward'. Surrounding the center is a blue enameled ring that reads: "HEALTH OFFICER NEW YORK STATE" and the badge is topped with a perched eagle.
