ARTIFACT: Beautifully framed, autographed photo, signed document, and Royal Flying Corps hat badge of 1st American to become an Ace, Captain Frederick Libby, M. C. Captain Libby served with the Royal Flying Corps as an observer and pilot eventually scoring 24 kills! The badge is an enlisted man's badge type, so if it's Libby's it would be from his days in training. The top of the frame contains a nice period photo of Captain Libby in full uniform, the photo shows inked handwriting that reads: "MY DEAR BILL…" the rest is illegible. The center displays the hat badge and a plate that reads: "CAPT. FREDERICK LIBBY, M. C.", "ROYAL FLYING CORPS", "FIRST AMERICAN TO DOWN FIVE AIRCRAFT", "TOTAL CONFIRMED VICTORIES IN WWI – 24", "10 OBSERVER", "14 PILOT", "1892 – 1970". The bottom of the frame contains Captain Libby's application for membership in the Fighter Aces Association, it is dated "MARCH 30th, 1962" and signed by Captain Libby.
