ARTIFACT:
This is a LARGE circa 1880's United States Detective Company badge with a circle cut-out star design at center. The badge reads UNITED STATES DETECTIVE with CO. in VERY small letters at bottom, to try to give a "Federal" appearance to the badge!
VINTAGE:
Circa 1880's.
SIZE:
Approximately 2-1/2" in height x 2-5/16" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Stamped nickel with a lead-soldered brass pin. Jeweler's Black was probably in the lettering at one time, but that is all gone.
ATTACHMENT:
Horizontal safety-style pin with open catch.

CONDITION:
7 (Very Fine): Badge shows light wear on the obverse, with wonderful heavy patina and tarnish on the reverse. Jeweler's Black was probably in the lettering at one time, but that is all gone.
