ARTIFACT: This is a extremely rare example of a World War I Type II APL American Protective League Captain Badge produced by William Barthman of New York City. We have only ever seen a few other APL badge by this maker in the last 4 decades. The badge reads:

PROTECTIVE LEAGUE
A-69

VINTAGE: Circa 1917.

SIZE: Approximately 1-1/2" in width x 2-1/2" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gold wash on brass with hard fired blue enamel details.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical kick pin with a "drop in" locking catch.

MARKINGS: WM BARTHMAN. N.Y.
