ARTIFACT:
What we have here is a pair of the Iconic and quite Rare Curved Rectangle Lens Style WWI Imperial German Aviator Goggles. EARLY war production, the frames on these are Nickel Plated Tombak. The leather nose piece is supple and strong, and the furred leather (not sure from what animal) pads are in incredible condition, retaining 97% of the original fur!!! The original strap has lost its flexibility, but is still strong and can be adjusted to size for display. An incredibly difficult pair of goggle to locate, with perfect lenses. Don't break one of those, they are irreplaceable!
VINTAGE:
Early World War I, circa 1915 or 1916.
SIZE:
Approximately 2-1/16" in height x 7-1/8" in width x 3/4" in depth. Strap: 18" in length x 3/8" in width.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
The goggles are made with Nickeled tombak, glass, nickeled steel (strap fittings), tanned fur bearing leather, elasticized (at one time...) cotton strap, and the center strap between the lenses is made of leather.
ATTACHMENT:
Elasticized (at one time...) cotton strap.
MARKINGS:
N/A.
ITEM NOTES:
This is from a WWI Imperial German Aviation Collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-JMB-50-24 LBBGEX11/18/24
CONDITION:
8- (Very Fine - Excellent): No issues here whatsoever, except for the lack of elasticity in the ORIGINAL strap. If that was in better shape, these would rate a 9-.
GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
