ARTIFACT: Extremely rare circa 1892 Monmouth Park Pinkerton Agent badge by C.G. Braxmar, New York. In 1892 the owners of Monmouth Park Race Track, then located in Eatontown, New Jersey, in the midst of fighting anti-betting legislature, hired Pinkerton Detective Agency security men SECRETLY, as they were actually outlawed in many states at this time for being "too large" of an agency, almost like a private militia. The badge is the exact layout of a Pinkerton Security Badge (Actually called Protective Patrol) of the same period, but makes no mention of Pinkerton! The secrecy was short-lived because Monmouth Park police under Chief Haggerty were enraged by the presence of Pinkerton officers at the track. Chief Haggerty resigned due to their employment and called for all senate and assemblymen to drive them out of the Monmouth Park stating that if they did not leave Pinkerton would be issued a fine for "exercising the functions of an officer without authority". The badge shows the copper number "15" in the center atop a raised embellishment and the badge reads: "MONMOUTH PARK ASSOCIATION" and the reverse reads: "C. G. BRAXMAR 42 CORTLANDT ST. NEW YORK"

VINTAGE: Circa 1892.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/2" in height x 2-1/4" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Copper, nickeled brass, black paint.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical kick pin with 'C' type catch.

MARKINGS: "C. G. BRAXMAR 42 CORTLANDT ST. NEW YORK"

ITEM NOTES: This is from a police and law enforcement collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. MABEX16 LABGEX5/16

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The badge shows minor to moderate wear, the pin looks to be a recent replacement, much of the plating and painted details remain intact, overall very fine condition.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
