ARTIFACT:
This is an Extremely Rare example of an Early Series Two Los Angeles, California Police Badge. The badge is most likely form the initial run of this series, having the earlier type of pin and catch, and being unmarked in coin or sterling silver, with remnants of the original hard fired dark blue enamel in the lettering and numbering. This badge was used roughly form 1890 to 1909, and the later examples usually have black enamel as opposed to the early examples which have dark blue enamel. Early Los Angeles badges of this 2nd series are nearly impossible to obtain, and this is the only one we have had to offer in our 30 years in the business. This badge was purchased over 30 years ago at the old Great Western Gun Show. Although badge numbers run higher, possibly because the 1st digit actually represented a district or precinct, it has been estimated there were at most about 140 personnel in the Los Angeles Police Department at any given time during the period of usage of this badge., making it an extremely hard badge to find for such a highly-collected department. The badge is large, slightly convex and reads "LOS ANGELES POLICE 116"
