ARTIFACT: This is an extremely rare early Yale Artillery Battalion collar insignia or hat badge circa 1915. Organized the same year, the battalion was led by determined a USMA 1904 graduate, Captain Robert Melville Danford. Danford trained the unit without aid of horses or firepower, transforming them into a battalion ready for service when called up in June 1916. Eager to serve, the group was to spend more time training at a Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania camp. This diligent group eventually became the basis for Reserve Officers' Training Corps of Yale University.

VINTAGE: Circa 1915.

SIZE: Approximately 15/16" in height x 2-1/8" in length.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Diagonal pin with tongue-style catch.

MARKINGS: None.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The badge has some wear/tarnish.
