ARTIFACT:
This is an Extremely Rare World War II Chiang Kai Shek Personal Chop Bronze Medal Safe Conduct Pass.
Collecting AVG and CBI over the years, I have owned a couple
of these, but they are extremely rare, and this is the nicest condition one
that I have had to offer.
As I understand it, and there is little information out
there, these were given out to OSS and Intelligence operatives, and Officers
who might find themselves in unknown places, to be used as a "Safe Conduct
Pass", on par with a silk blood chit, but with a LOT more clout, since the
symbol at center is actually Generalissimo Chiang Kai Shek's personal Chop.
This is beautifully made by an unknown company in China,
marked WASC. on the edge. The piece is constructed of 2 heavily die-struck
pieces of bronze, braised together at high heat, then finished with a lovely
chocolate brown patina and lacquered.
On one side reads GENERALISSIMO, and on the other, VICTORY.
This is a wonderful piece of clandestine history from the
dark days of WWII, used deep in Japanese Occupied China behind the lines.
