ARTIFACT: Extremely rare WWI trench art shell for the 25th Aero Squadron, "Headsmen" with a British S.E. 5 #21 engraved on the shell. Known as "The Executioners", the 25th was stationed in France for a few weeks before being equipped with any airplanes. They finally received some Royal Air Force S. E. 5s and completed one mission on the day before the Armistice was signed (November 11, 1918). The shell, which is a French 75mm artillery shell, is decorated with a full RAF S. E. 5 aircraft on one side: the plane is numbered 21 and looks to have MARIETTA on the nose. This is possibly a link to the original owner. Unique! The shell reads "e;25 AS"e; on the opposite side.

VINTAGE: Circa WWI.

SIZE: Approximately 13-1/2" x 3-1/2".

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Brass.
