ARTIFACT: This is an Extremely Rare St Louis Missouri Mexican Border Service Non-Commissioned Officer Medal of Sergeant E. M. Donnell.

The Mexican Border Service was active during the Mexican Revolution, not World War I. The Mexican Border Service Medal was awarded to military service members who served on the U.S.-Mexico border between January 1, 1916, and April 6, 1917. The service was part of the Pancho Villa Expedition, a military operation against Francisco "Pancho" Villa's paramilitary forces.

The bronze medal is 1 1/4 inches in diameter. On the obverse shows in 1916, the U.S. conducted what is known as the Pancho Villa Expedition or the Mexican operation led by General John J. Pershing to capture the Mexican revolutionary Francisco "Pancho" Villa, who had attacked the town of Columbus, New Mexico. This medal commemorates the service of those who were part of this expedition or who were involved in related duties along the U.S.-Mexico border.
