ARTIFACT:
This is a Extremely Rare mid-30's HANGER SIX Pilot Instructor Wing in Sterling.
This is an extremely rare, and possibly the only one extant,
Instructor wing for the famous WWII Pilot Training school Hanger Six, Inc.,
from its very beginnings in the early to mid 1930's. The wing is beautifully
jeweler made in enameled sterling silver. The unknown, but quite possibly
from San Antonio, jeweler's marks "DB" are on back. The wing is hand engraved
on back at center with the #4, most likely denoting that this was the 4th
instructor wing issued by the organization. This is the only wing we have seen
or heard of made just like this one, and the construction points to mid-1930's
or earlier, and we are confident that it represents the first wing type issued
by Hanger Six, Inc.
"This operation was started in San Antonio, Texas and was later transferred to Uvalde. By 1939 the company was operating a complete aviation service."
