ARTIFACT: What we have here is an extremely rare, circa 1924 USAS United States Air Service 25th Bombardment Squadron Flight Jacket Patch. The patch is possibly unique, or certainly the only one still in existence.

Also known as the "The Headsman" during WWI, and initially formed as the 20th and then the 25th Aero Squadron in June 1917, this group merged with the 25th Squadron in January 1924, and evolved into the 25th Bombardment Squadron.

The patch shows a cartoonish executioner wielding a Headsman's axe with jagged edge in red.

This unit was one of the first to be stationed in the Panama Canal Zone, and was stationed at France Field, Panama Canal Zone, on 30 April 1922.

VINTAGE: Circa 1924.

SIZE: Approximately 4-3/8" in width x 4-1/16" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Painted or silk screen printed canvas affixed to heavy leather backing.

ATTACHMENT: To be sewn onto flight clothing.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Army Air Forces collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. TRAJJ16 LAAGEX7/16 SLAFGEX09/14/24

CONDITION: 7- (Very Fine-): Paint cracked but vibrant and intact.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
