ARTIFACT: This is an extremely rare circa 1942 5th Army Airways Communications Squadron, part of the Army Airways Communications System (AACS) jacket patch. Set up in 1938, the AACS was tasked with maintaining radio facilities as an aid to air traffic control. The patch shows a lightning bug sending out a telegraphic message. One often finds patches for the AACS, a very large branch of the USAAF, but this is the ONLY patch we have ever seen for an individual squadron level part of that branch. The patch is silk screen printed on felt, and shows are cartoon cricket or cicada helping out the telegraph key send its message.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II (1942).

SIZE: About 6" wide by 5-1/2" high.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Silk screen printed on wool felt.

ATTACHMENT: To be sewn onto a garment.

MARKINGS: None.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Army Air Forces collection, which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJJX08 LEEJX08 SLVFGEX05/09/20

CONDITION: 8+ (Excellent-Very fine): Very minor wear; slight soiling and minor mothing.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
