ARTIFACT:
This is an original United Kingdom Propaganda Display about the May 7, 1915 sinking of the Cunard Lines R.M.S. Lusitania off Ireland by a German Submarine / U-Boat, The U-20, which includes 2 copies, appearing to be in cast iron, of the satirical German Propaganda Medals produced by the artist Karl Goetz, with a descriptive provocative write-up about the medal, in its original frame.
One side of the medal shows passengers buying tickets for the fated passage from a Death, appearing as a skeletal Cunard Lines clerk; the other shows the sinking of the ship, which took only eighteen minutes. The document quotes the Cologne People's News: "With joyful pride we contemplate this latest deed of our Navy".
We do not know if the medals are one-sided, or two-sided, as we have never had the display apart, and it appears that it would be difficult to remove the medals from the card display, as they have stayed fast for almost 110 years.
