ARTIFACT: This is an exquisite set of circa 1871 opera glasses in gilt brass and mother of pearl made by Lemaire of Paris. These glasses do telescope and have great optics! The bee-shaped maker mark of Lemaire, which was founded in 1846 and went out of business in 1955, dates the piece as an earlier one: later on the company marked their products with their actual name. They are engraved with a monogram on the front (HSC) and 19-9-71.

VINTAGE: Circa 1871.

SIZE: Approximately 2" in depth (when retracted) and 3-3/4" in width (across lenses) and 1-15/16" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gilt brass, mother of pearl, glass.

ATTACHMENT: Dial to telescope glasses.

MARKINGS: Bee maker mark; Superior Quality; engraved with intertwined initials (HS&C), XIX 19-9-71.

ITEM NOTES: This is from an antique music-related collection that we will be listing more of over the next few months. ebay MDJX13 LAGEX12/13 SLADEX4/16

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent-): The glasses have very little wear.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
