ARTIFACT: This is a circa early 1980s United States Navy submarine tender USS Holland (AS-32) Engineering Department pocket patch for the 3rd MAEDC "Super Troops". The Holland was launched January 19, 1963 at Pascagoula, Mississippi and was decommissioned on September 30, 1996. The patch is Japanese-made by Ace Novelty and reads WORLD'S GREATEST ENGINEERING DEPT. around its border. It shows a red "E" at center to represent one of the several "E" awards the ship earned in the 1980s.

VINTAGE: Circa early 1980s.

SIZE: Approximately 5" in diameter.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Fully embroidered in cotton/silk/polyester threads.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: Ace Novelty BOX 1374 TOKYO JAPAN; "3rd" appears to have been inked on front of patch.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Navy collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. ebay VEX05 LFJX1/13 SeVFJX11/14

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The patch shows only light wear.
