ARTIFACT:
Scarce, early 1920's Association of German Naval Pilots and Observers member stick pin, as this was a short lived organization. During WWI the German Navy implored many Zeppelins to patrol continuously, this kept the British ships from approaching Germany and naval aviators carried out a number of strategic attacks on Britain. After the end of WWI, the bulk of the Imperial Navy's modern ships, close to 75 in all, were interned at Scapa Flow and on orders from Rear Admiral Ludwig von Reuter, the entire fleet was scuttled by its crews on June 21st, 1919. The pin depicts a soaring eagle facing the viewers right, surrounded by a wreath of half oak, half laurel leaves joined together at the bottom in a bow.
