ARTIFACT: This is a Early 1900's Pre-Prohibition Advertising Cork Screw for Shawhan Whiskey Kansas City.

Shawhan Whiskey - The Shawhan Distillery Co. Kansas City & Weston, Mo "It Keeps On Tasting Good" This corkscrew is from the early 1900's, probably between 1903 and 1907. It is made of a wire metal, with a wooden case, which the corkscrew is screwed into for safe keeping. The above words appears to be printed on the wooden case, not branded.

We can date this corkscrew based on the fact that the company was known by "The Shawhan Distillery Co." only from 1903 to 1912. It was moved from Weston to Verona in 1907. In very good condition, especially for its age of over 100 years! Little or no fading of printing, only light wear to the finish.

Daniel Shawhan was probably one of the first to make Bourbon Whiskey. His great grandson, George Shawhan, moved out of Kentucky after the Civil War and settled in Missouri. After a number of years of producing whiskey, he built a large mansion in Weston, Missouri. This home remains today in use as a Bed and Breakfast. George died in 1912, but the Shawhan Distillery continued until the 1970's
