ARTIFACT:
Cool WWII Occupation Era WAC cigarette case with earlier WAAC enlisted hat badge affixed. The original owner, and apparently long time Army Veteran added the insignia to her Occupation Period cigarette case to show that she was in the Army back when the WACs were the WAACs.
I would also like to add: The ingenuitive WAAC added a decorative piece of leather between the WAAC insignia and the background part of the cap badge that she affixed to her Cigarette case, thereby shortening the screw post so it would not go too far into her smokes.
The hinged, steel case features a raised gilt brass and leather insignia that shows a standing eagle with wings spread. The hat badge is affixed through a hole and retains its brass disc backing (see photo). The inside has an elastic to hold cigarettes in place and reads: "W. GERMANY" on the inside edge (see photo).
