ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1930s or 1940s Railway Express Agency (REA) hat badge #55478. REA was a conglomeration of smaller national express companies set up by the United States government in 1917, during World War I.

VINTAGE: Circa 1930s-1940s.

SIZE: About 1-15/16" in width by 2" in height.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Silver-plated brass with enamel accent and black painted numbers.

ATTACHMENT: Single screw post.

MARKINGS: Three makers' marks around: BASTIAN BROS. CO. There may be more but the screw post is partially obscuring the marks.

ITEM NOTES: This is from an early express company badge collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VGEX99 LAGJX

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent-): Very minor wear to badge including the enamel.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
