ARTIFACT:
This near mint Chinese Blood Chit is of the later war type produced and issued by the Chinese Aero Commission. This example was issued to John L. Cella, who was the Escape & Evasion, and Search & Rescue, Officer of the Twentieth Bomber Command.
At some point in 1944, the Commission changed the 3rd character down in the first (far right) column from the character for HELP to that of PARTICIPATE.
Since mid/late 1942, the Aero Commission Chop had been moved from center to the left, and also by 1943 Chits were reduced in size, like this one, form the AVG period measurements of approximately 10-7/8" in height x 8-1/4" in width, to approximately 9-5/8" in height x 7-3/4" in width
This lovely Biographical later Chinese Aero Commission Chit is in exceptional condition, having been folded perhaps once, it appears to have had impeccable storage as there is almost no foxing, and no visible wear to the silk obverse or the cotton/linen reverse. It would be hard to upgrade on this Chit.
This Chit is published on page 88 of LAST HOPE: THE BLOOD CHIT STORY, and on page 16 of BEHIND ENEMY LINES: EVASION AND ESCAPE AIDS OF WORLD WAR II.
