ARTIFACT: This is a fabulous Portsmouth Electric Railway conductor hat, badge, key ring and ticket puncher. The PER served the Portsmouth areas from 1899 through 1925. The hat is a dark blue wool and has a large brass plate on the front that reads CONDUCTOR 1 PORTSMOUTH ELECTRIC RY. The key ring has three keys, and the badge is by C.A. Twitchell of Boston.

VINTAGE: Circa 1899.

SIZE: Badge: approximately 1-13/16" in height and 1-9/16" in width; key ring: approximately 4-1/4" in length (from ring to end of longest key) and 1-3/8" in diameter (ring); ticket puncher: approximately 4-9/16" in length and 2-5/16" in width; hat: size 6-7/8.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Badge: nickel-plated brass with painted lettering; key ring: nickel-plated brass; ticket puncher: nickel-plated brass; hat: wool, plated brass badge, patent leather visor, leather liner, straw, silk lining, clear cellophane.

ATTACHMENT: Badge: vertical safety-style pin with C catch.

PORTSMOUTH N.H. on front and 1904 on reverse; key 3: MASTER LOCK CO. 5138 on front and MILWAUKEE WISC. U.S.A. MASTER on reverse; ticket puncher: MAC-MIETH NO. 45; hat label: ALL WOOL THIS MATERIAL IS "SHOWER-PROOFED" CUSTOM-MADE "HEAD-MASTER" T.M. REG. U.S. PAT. OFF. UNIFORM HEADWEAR MADE BY WENTWORTH FORMAN CO. INC. 116 BEFORD ST. BOSTON, MASS. IDENTIFICATION POCKET and a hatter's union stamp with B581097; hat tag: 6-7/8 and THE KAYE ALL VENTILATED FRAME UNIFORM CANE CAP.

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The items are in various conditions but overall are very fine to excellent. The hat has one very small spot of light wear on its reverse and a small spot of slight discoloration on top; small bits of the painted lettering has worn off of the badge; keys have light to medium wear and some faint rusting.
