ARTIFACT:
This is a beautiful 1910s or 1920s member badge for the Havana-American Jockey Club. Created in 1915, Oriental Park at Marianao (in Havana) was the first racetrack in Cuba and the site for the club's events. Americans thoroughbred owners brought their horses to the island to race and anyone who was anybody went to watch: even ladies were permitted to attend Wednesday afternoon races starting in 1920. The badge is in sterling silver and was made by Dieges & Clust. It has an enameled crest bearing the Cuban and American flags at center and a horse head on top. Approximately 7/8" in diameter.

Sterling silver, enamel.

Screw post with disc backing.
MARKINGS:
118 on front; D&C (Dieges & Clust) eagle maker mark and STERLING on reverse; DIEGES & CLUST on backing.
