ARTIFACT:
Beautiful Prinzen size WWI Prussian Observer (Beobachterabzeichen) badge by Meybauer, dated just post-war. Badge depicts the enameled flag of the German tactical symbol for an Army Corps surrounded by oak leaves on one side and laurel leaves on the other joined together at the bottom in a bow, atop is a Prussian crown. The reverse engraving reads: 28 Juli 1919 W.J. 26 Sept. 1919. Badge is clearly made by Meybauer, but does not have the typical Meybauer pin. ON close inspection the pin itself appears to be an exquisitely made jeweler replacement of the original pin. The pin itself is of a riveted construction where it is attached via a miniscule brass rivet to the loop that the hinge pin goes through: rather elaborate.
Another interesting point, the badge itself is made of plated copper or bronze, but the central enameled piece is made of solid silver.
