ARTIFACT:
This is a beautiful and rare 1919 deluxe edition "Granville" book. This book is the privately published story of "Granny", the United States Air Service bombing military aviator who designed the wing worn by those so qualified. This book is far more rare than the commonly-seen edition with the green cloth cover, being the deluxe edition made for immediate family (there is an inscription to a family member in this copy). The book has a lovely leather binding with a gold embossed representation of the wing and handsomely painted endpapers.
VINTAGE:
Circa 1919.
SIZE:
178 pages with endpapers; approximately 5-5/16" in width and 7-11/16" in height and 15/16" thick.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Leather with gold embossing, painted end papers.
ATTACHMENT:
Glued binding.
MARKINGS:
TO "GRANVILLE'S" COUSIN EDWIN OLSTON handwritten in front of book and COPYRIGHT, 1919, BY GILBERT GUTTERSEN on page after frontspiece.
ITEM NOTES:
This is from a United States Army Air Forces collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. CON-JMB-VAJJJX-NET-10 LAEJJX3/11 SADHJ3/11
CONDITION:
7+ (Very Fine+): The book is delicate with some predictable wear to the binding and corners but has no internal damage of any sort.
GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
