ARTIFACT: This is a beautiful circa 1750s-1780s German faience stein from Erfurt. Erfurt is an ancient town in central Germany, and Erfurt Cathedral once had a priest yet unknown to the wider world named Martin Luther. The stein is done predominantly in a lilac hue with many jewel tone details, a trademark of the vibrant glazed earthenware named faience. The tall stein has a pewter hinge and thumbpiece.

VINTAGE: Circa 1750s-1780s.

SIZE: Approximately 9-1/2" in height and 4-5/8" in diameter across bottom.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Faience (glazed earthenware), pewter lid.

ATTACHMENT: Hinged lid.

MARKINGS: 133 under lid; ERFURT 18th cent on collection sticker beneath lid.

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The stein has only light wear and possibly an old repair to the hinge/thumbpiece.
