ARTIFACT: This is a Beautiful Circa 1940's PAA Pan American Airways #'d Pilot Hat Badge issued to Edward H. Mullen.

Edward H. "Ned" Mullen was one of the last "Pioneer" Pan Am Pilots. Hired in Miami in 1940, before WWII, Ned flew for 36 years, retiring after many years as a Captain, or Check Pilot, in 1976.

Captain Ned Mullen is well remembered by UFO enthusiasts as one of the THREE Pan Am Pilots who saw a UFO in the mid-1950's:

(Excerpted from The Flying Saucer Conspiracy by Donald E. Keyhoe, 1955, Henry Holt & Co., New York, NY, pp. 133-134):

April 23, [1954?]: A Pan American airliner piloted by Captain Jack Adriance was flying at 20,000 feet between Puerto Rico and New York.
Suddenly a call came from another Pan Am plane more than 200 miles behind.
The other captain reported that a strange flying object had just streaked past. "It's headed straight toward you," said the pilot.
"It's round and pulsating with an orange-greenish light."

A few moments later, Captain Adriance was amazed to see the object -- or an identical one -- flash past his airliner.
Cutting in his microphone, he called Captain Ned Mullen who piloting another Pan Am flight up ahead. In a few minutes, Mullen radioed back that the mysterious UFO had just passed him, disappearing in seconds.
