ARTIFACT:
This is a hardcover copy of "Pictorial Record of the 401st Bomb Group" World War II United States Army Air Forces unit history. The book was published in 1946, and the editing was overseen by Captain Gordon R. Closway, Group Public Relations Officer. This book has a lot of fantastic photographs and some interesting cameos of some of the men, be they medal recipients or survivors of close calls. There are some squadron inisgnia illustrations in color and also a large sampling of jacket art. The 401st was attached to the 8th Air Force. And flew B-17s: one of their distinguishing achievements was having the best bombing accuracy record among theB-17 groups of the 8th. They were also the first group in the European Theatre of Operations to manage completion of one hundred missions in just seven months.
