ARTIFACT:

This is a 1944 USSR Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class Type 2 # 342518.

USSR Order of the Patriotic War 2nd Class Type 2 Number 342518 was awarded on December 21, 1944 by Order of the Day of the 2nd Guards Army to Guards Lieutenant Colonel Vasily Vasilyevich Andreyev, chief of signals of the 1st Tank Corps, 2nd Guards Army. Following the start of a breakthrough operation on October 5, 1944, Andreyev organized the communications with the various units. Throughout the operation radio communications functioned smoothly, enabling proper command and control. When the 159th Tank Brigade moved ahead, Andreyev moved ahead as well to arrange communications, setting up an intermediate radio post. As a result of Andreyev's efforts, the corps was flexible and easy to command.

Andreyev was born in Leningrad on October 28, 1908 and joined the army in 1930. He joined the Communist Party in 1943. After the war he lived in Narofominsk and studied at the Higher Signal Officer School. He was still serving by 1956 at least. He was awarded various decorations: a Red Star in September 1943, OPW1 in March 1945, Combat Merit Medal in November 1944, Red Star in November 1945, the Defense of Moscow, Victory over Germany and Capture of Konigsberg medals, a Red Banner in 1950 and an Order of Lenin in 1956.

*The other images are pictures of USSR Documents that tell the story of the award, in Russian, and are included for historical purposes only, but all the buyer will receive is the medal, we do not have the documents, or hard copies of them, just the electronic images.
