ARTIFACT: This is a circa 1943 United States Navy WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) recruiting poster. The WAVES were the first women to serve in the army as a division of the US Navy. The poster reads ON THE SAME TEAM and attempts to show the emerging attempt at gender integration in the military. It is interesting to note that the female sailor, while attractive by many standards, is not as glamorous and movie actress-like as females on other recruiting posters of the same period. The artist was a Naval Reservist.

VINTAGE: Circa 1943.

SIZE: Approximately 39" in height by 28-1/8" in width (not including foam board).

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: This poster is shrink-wrapped to a piece of foam board. It will be shipped unwrapped and rolled without the foam board, unless arrangements are made for pick-up or special shipping to preserve the shrink wrap mounting.

ATTACHMENT: None.

MARKINGS: JOHN FALTER USNR; NAVPERS-NRB-38690- 24 SEP 43- 40M; ORDER NO. 49.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Navy collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VAJJ05 LDEJX7/11 SDEJX3/15

CONDITION: 8+ (Excellent): The poster is in excellent condition with only a few very minor wrinkles and a very small area of discoloration near one corner no more than ¼" square. There are no creases or pin holes.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
