ARTIFACT: This is a launching ribbon for the USS Capelin SS-289 bearing the slogan Remember Pearl Harbor". Capelin was launched from Portsmouth Naval Ship Yard on January 20, 1943 and her first war patrol, conducted in the Molucca, Flores, and Banda Seas between October and November 1943, found her sinking a 3,127-ton Japanese cargo ship on November 11th off Ambon Island. Eager for more success, Capelin began her disastrous second war patrol in the same area and then disappeared without a trace.

VINTAGE: Circa 1943.

SIZE: Approximately 2-1/4" in width and 5-1/4" in length.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Printed silk.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Navy collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. VBJX11 LGJX9/11

CONDITION: 8- (Very Fine-Excellent): The ribbon has light wear and one pinhole near the topk.
