ARTIFACT: This is a handmade 1942 launching souvenir for the USS Shad from Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. The souvenir is shaped like a cross-section of a life preserver that has U.S.S. SHAD 235 PORTSMOUTH painted on it, and four ribbons secure a rope border to the piece.

VINTAGE: Circa 1942.

SIZE: Approximately 5-1/8" diameter and 1/2" thickness.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Painted, cloth-covered wood with silk ribbon, cellophane, rope, and paper backing.

ATTACHMENT: N/A.

MARKINGS: HANDMADE & PRINTED.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Navy collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. RCEV93 VHEX12/10

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The souvenir has some small spots of light wear, mostly on reverse, and the cellophane at its center is a bit warped.
