ARTIFACT: This is a 14K gold 1933 US Naval Academy "Sweetheart" ring with about a 1ct garnet.  Based on the engraved initials inside the ring (H.C.Y. to E.L.Y.) and a perusal of the 1933 Lucky Bag Annapolis Yearbook, I believe the ring likely belonged to Herbert Carl Yost, and I speculate that he gave it to his wife in 1943 when they were married.  Of course one can never know the history for sure, but there was no other cadet in 1933 with the initials H.C.Y.  The ring is well worn, but one can still make out the 1933 in the class emblem on the side of the ring. Being form the Golden Age of Aviation, a Radial Motor and Propeller are visible on one side of the ring, and the class of 1933 Eagle and Date are on the other. One can make out/imagine UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY around the bezel of the Garnet, the top part being particularly worn, most likely rubbing against Mrs. Yost's wedding band for decades. The original Tiffany & Company Ring Box is also included with the ring.
