This is a 1927 hardcover copy of "The Principles of Railroad Transportation" by Emory R. Johnson, Ph.D.". Johnson was a professor on this topic at University of Pennsylvania and held various other academic posts. The book is "illustrated with maps, half-tones and diagrams", as stated on the title page. The topics covered range from stagecoaches and the origins of the railway system in America to current issues (the book was originally published in 1903). The first endpaper has the handwritten name and addresses of a previous (and probably original) owner.
