ARTIFACT: This is a No. 4 Portsmouth Fire Department 17th annual parade ribbon from September 10, 1903. The geranium-colored ribbon has a bar at top reading CAPTAIN and a medallion with an eagle at top showing the Fire Captain's photograph.

VINTAGE: Circa 1903.

SIZE: 7-5/16" in height and 2-7/8" in width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Gold-painted aluminum, celluloid, photograph, printed paper, silk ribbon.

ATTACHMENT: Horizontal safety-style pin.

MARKINGS: PAT. ? (partly obscured by pin) and partial label would have read RIBBON BADGES FROM GEO. A. SANFORD 23 HAWLEY ST., BOSTON with maker's mark..

ITEM NOTES: This is from a fire fighting collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. ebay MDJX03 LADEX8/10

CONDITION: 8 (Excellent): Ribbon shows very little wear; photograph is somewhat faded; label is partially gone.
