ARTIFACT: This is an 1890s thumbnail badge in 10 karat gold (unmarked) for six years of service with the Westerly, Rhode Island Steam Fire Engine Company No. 1. The badge reads R.I. ONES, the company's nickname, in black enamel.

VINTAGE: Circa 1890s.

SIZE: Approximately 1" length and 3/4" width.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: 10 karat gold with enamel.

ATTACHMENT: Vertical pin with drop-in locking swivel catch.

MARKINGS: S.M. SPENCER MFG CO. 9 CORNHILL BOSTON, MASS.
