ARTIFACT:
This is a pair of World War II Wehrmacht 6x30 field glasses (or binoculars) in its original Bakelite case with button tab closure. This item was a D-Day veteran's bring-back: another artifact brought home by Radio Operator Clyde Williams, who was in the First Wave of the D-Day Invasion (please see link below for related products). Williams was attached to the 2nd Battalion, 47th Regiment, 9th Infantry at Cherbourg and to the 2nd Rangers Battalion at Pointe du Hoc. The field glasses have an attached protective lens cover and have a clear manufacturer mark and serial number.
VINTAGE:
Circa World War II.
SIZE:
Approximately 2-1/4" in height and 6" in width and 4-1/2" in depth with 30" long strap; case is approximately 6-1/2" x 6" x 3-1/2" with a strap about 44" in length.
MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION:
Glass, Bakelite, leather, metal.
ATTACHMENT:
Binoculars: strap; case: button tab closure, U rings, strap with buckle and sliding adjuster bar, two brackets on back of case.

CONDITION:
7 (Very Fine): Optics good but slightly foggy inside. Spotting graph in right side optics. Old repair to original leather strap – strap is worn but supple. Some small spots of wear.
