ARTIFACT: This is a World War II United States Navy M-422A flight jacket with a rare sewn-on United States Marine Corps name plate. Little is known to us about Lieutenant L. R. Reeder, the original wearer of the jacket. The M-422A debuted in 1941, succeeding the M-422 jacket, which had no designated place to store a pencil. The jacket is in leather with a red lining and is a size 38.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Size 38. Approximately 20" (armpit to armpit), 17-1/2" (across back shoulder to shoulder), 23-1/2" from shoulder seam to end of cuff and about 25-1/2" from base of collar to bottom of waistband.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Goatskin leather, mouton (lamb's wool) collar, twill, elasticized cotton/nylon, nickel, plated brass.

ATTACHMENT: Zipper, snap placket beneath, inside snap pocket, buttons on exterior pockets.

MARKINGS: JACKETS, INTERSTATE BU AERO (Bureau of Aeronautics)-U.S. NAVY SPECIFICATION M-422A WILLS AND GEIGER INC. CONTRACT NXS-290; LT. L.R. REEDER USMCR 021193 (?) inside lining; TALON on zipper.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Navy collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. STORE CON-LL-20-VGEJX12 LABEJX3/12 SABEJX5/13

CONDITION: 7 (Very Fine): The jacket has some small rips in the lining, identical tears to the cuffs, and overall wear besides.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
