ARTIFACT: This is a grouping from World War II for the "Manhattan Project", codename for the combined effort of the United States Army Corps of Engineers, along with Britain and Canada, to produce the first atomic bomb. The grouping includes a book authored by Norman G. Pratt of Portland, Maine, his SED (Special Engineers Detachment) 1945 yearbook and his uniform (jacket, pants and cap). The book is set up similar to a baby book, recording notable events and places and housing clippings and souvenirs. There are four different patches mounted in the book (two are pictured - please note that the Manhattan Project patch is no longer glued in). The SED Yearbook is emblazoned with Manhattan Project insignia, shows a photo of SED in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and has a history of the SED as well as a foreword by Colonel Kenneth D. Nichols. The Two stripes and several over patches have been sewn onto the jacket, including the Manhattan Project patch on its left shoulder, and there is writing inside the jacket. The cap also has writing inside the liner.

VINTAGE: Circa World War II.

SIZE: Jacket (tag in pocket says 38R but sizing runs small): 23-1/2" shoulder seam to cuff, 16-1/2" armpit to armpit, 17" across back shoulder to shoulder; pants: 32" waist, 29" inseam; yearbook: about 8-1/2" in width and 11" in height; book (120 pages): about 9-3/4" in height and 6-5/8" in width; cap: approximate size 7.

MATERIALS / CONSTRUCTION: Jacket: wool, cotton, silk, brass buttons, brass/silk ribbon bar, jacket patches (two fully embroidered in cotton/silk threads, two wool embroidered in cotton/silk threads, one printed on leather); pants: wool, cotton, resin buttons; yearbook: paper, oaktag, plastic binding comb; book: paper, painted fabric cover, glossy paper dustjacket; cap: wool piped in embroidered cotton/silk threads, muslin liner.

ATTACHMENT: Jacket: buttons; pants: button fly, yearbook: binding comb; book: glued.

MARKINGS: Jacket: writing inside with P7961, manufacturer's label inside pocket; pants: numbered stamped inside (see photo); yearbook: NORMAN G. PRATT written on cover; cap: P7961 PVT. N.G. PRATT written inside.

ITEM NOTES: This is from a United States Army collection which we will be listing more of over the next few months. Ebay KEZAR VAEJX11 LEGEX12/11 SEGEX9/14

CONDITION: 7+ (Very Fine+): The items are in various conditions but overall are in very fine shape. There is just about no wear to the uniform or cap. The dust jacket on the book is barely still there, and what is there is in a few pieces. There is wear and aging on the yearbook, especially at the edges, and no rips or stains.

GUARANTEE: As with all my artifacts, this piece is guaranteed to be original, as described.
